Second Week of Writing and a Battle of the Mind?

So today I finished my second full week at being back writing, and I will admit it was a wee bit tougher though not in terms of actually writing words.

My aim is to rebuild my daily habit, words moving from mind to paper. This may take the form of creative writing, a lazy kind of administration - website, blog and suchlike - and making sure I visit the shed (my writing and safe place) on a daily basis. But there have been a couple of days when I admit to having been tempted not to leave the house and have a day off. This may not seem like such a big thing, but as a real recluse with a range of mental illnesses it's something I've really had to face up to and tackle.

If one day is missed it can become a slippery slope.

My tactic?

To do something else first.

On on one day I mowed the lawn, which entails opening the shed to use the power - got me more than halfway there - and after which I was much relieved to relax into the shed and writing. And on the other day I did the bins and sorted out all the recycling. This entailed leaving the front door. Well after that trauma the shed and garden were an oasis of calm and joy into which I happily retreated.

Once I'm in the shed, the writing has come easy. This has quite surprised me. I took a year hiatus and spent a lot of my time gaming. With an addictive personality I figured games would call out to me and trap me in their arms, but this hasn't been the case. I've not been tempted away from the writing (once I'm in the shed) at all. Every day has seen me complete and edit anywhere from 300 to 500 words, thoroughly enjoying the process of meeting new characters, exploring and adapting places, and researching everything from medieval eel fishing to a possible journey from the Pyrenees to England in a feudal world.

So engaging.

And very much fun!

Thus I come to another weekend. Saturday and Sunday are when I listen to the football on the radio. Strangely I can't tap into characters when actively engaged in listening to something else, and so this has become the time to write my blog. A splurge of (often) random thoughts and reflection, and with that a need to publish said offload to my website, choose some pictures, and let people know. A very different side to writing.

If there's a topic you'd like me to consider in a blog, a book you think I really need to read and review, or a TV Series you think I'd enjoy (and you'd like me to include it in my blog) drop me a line and let me know.

Finally.

If you do buy my books.

Thank you.

And let me know what you think. Get in touch on Threads.

I'm always there; a writer, you see...
